Whilst there is, unfortunately, no cure for old age, we can arm ourselves with the best anti-ageing systems and treatments to help us look as good as we can whilst the ageing process carries on despite our protestations. As always, The Skin To Love Clinic will never administer a treatment without a full consultation, but here we hope to give you an overview of the anti-ageing treatments we recommend and how they could help you, whatever your specific need. 1. Thermage eye

For a single solution, which will leave your friends wondering what your secret is, Thermage could be for you. Using unique radio frequency technology, this celebrity-endorsed treatment leaves you with a natural-looking, youthful appearance. The beauty of this anti-ageing treatment is that it keeps working on your skin after treatment has finished as the skin begins to regenerate, with the final results visible after 6 months. How Thermage works:

2. Thread lift

Our Thread Lift treatment is ideal for skin that is starting to lose that youthful appearance. It addresses all the problem areas, targeting some loose skin and, in some cases, subtly lifting the areas which need it; the thread lift treatment can instantly lift and redefine, loose skin in areas that are starting to notice the effects of gravity, such as your lower face and jawline. The treatment itself also triggers your body to produce new collagen which further boosts your results and improves the quality of your skin. Depending on your individual response, it may take up to five months to see these further results. It’s unsurprising that it remains one of our most popular anti-ageing treatments! As with all non-surgical treatments, it’s good to bear in mind that if you are a candidate for surgery, non-surgical treatments may not give you the outcome you desire.

How the Thread Lift works: 

A medical practitioner carefully places PDO threads into your skin in the area of concern. Once perfectly in place they gently tighten the threads which subtly lifts your skin. 

May be ideal if: 

If your lower face is looking ‘heavy’, you’re noticing jowls and your jawline has seen sharper days.

Treatment time:

This depends on how many threads you require, however the average Thread Lift treatment at our skin clinic St. Albans takes about an hour. 

This is a single treatment, rather than a course. 

Thread lift feels like:

Before the treatment takes place, your skin specialist ensures that the area being treated is numbed with local anaesthetic; this can feel like little bee stings that last a few seconds only. 

Following this, your skin treatment should feel entirely pain-free. What you will be able to feel is occasional pressure and movement as your practitioner places and gently tightens your threads. This is tolerated very well. 

Result timeline:

Thread Lift results are immediate. However, you get further improvement in the months that follow as collagen and hyaluronic acid production are stimulated by the threads which means plumper, smoother, brighter skin in the treated area. 

Thread Lift fun fact:

The PDO threads used in the Thread Lift treatment are the same as those used in cardiac surgery; they are made of complex carbohydrates, and they naturally and gradually break down over time.

3. Cheek filler

How cheek filler works: 

Dermal fillers made from a hyaluronic acid gel are placed strategically to replace volume in your cheeks and cheek bones that has naturally been lost because of the ageing process (the fat pads in your cheek area shrink with age).

Often dermal fillers are thought of as ‘wrinkle filler’ but they are just as frequently used to rebuild volume in the cheeks, temples, chin, tear trough and hands.  

May be ideal if: 

Your mid-face has become flatter; you notice that the apples of your cheeks aren’t as full as they used to be, perhaps your cheekbones aren’t as defined, and you may be noticing the formation of ‘nose to mouth lines’. 

Treatment time:

Approximately 30 to 40 minutes, depending on how much filler you require.

This is a single treatment, but in some cases, it may be done in phases.

Cheek filler feels like:

The dermal fillers used at our skin clinic St. Albans contain local anaesthetic, so the area becomes numb very quickly. At the start of the treatment, you’ll probably feel a tiny scratch as a small needle goes into the skin, following this you may feel some light pressure as the dermal filler is placed; this is tolerated exceptionally well because of the local anaesthetic and because our practitioners have an incredible amount of experience and training in techniques that make the treatment comfortable.

Result timeline:

Dermal filler results are immediate. 

Dermal filler fun fact:

There are different ‘types’ of dermal filler within a brand. The type(s) of filler used are matched to your requirements, treatment area and unique facial and skin structure. Dermal filler is not a one-size-fits-all treatment.  

4. Profhilo

The profhilo treatment offers a new approach to rejuvenating your skin tone and treating skin laxity by triggering a ‘bio-remodelling’ response; a revolutionary new category of anti-ageing injectable treatments that shouldn’t be confused with dermal filler treatment, skin boosters or mesotherapy.

What is Profhilo: 

Profhilo uses a unique slow-release hyaluronic acid that is placed in very specific areas of your skin. Because its consistency is like honey the Profhilo spreads throughout your skin tissue triggering a ‘bio-remodelling’ response from your skin. 

Although Profhilo and dermal fillers are both made of hyaluronic acid (HA), that used to make Profhilo uses HA of two different molecular weights; this then goes through a process that causes those two different molecules to combine creating a unique product which triggers bio-remodelling. 

May be ideal if: 

You want to boost the quality of your facial skin or the skin on your neck or decolletage; if so, you may be noticing skin crepiness, lines and wrinkles, thinning skin, a loss of ‘bounce’ in your skin and some skin dehydration.    

Treatment time:

Approximately half an hour for the face or neck or decolletage on their own, longer if you’d like more than one area treated at once.

Profhilo is a two-part treatment. The first half an hour session is repeated approximately 30 days later.

Result timeline:

Profhilo results and positive changes in your skin can often be seen following your first treatment session, however you should expect your full results after your second session.

5. TCA chemical peel

How a TCA chemical peel works: 

There are many types of chemical peels which have different actions, however, in the case of trichloroacetic acid (TCA) the solution allows a medium to deep remodelling of your skin by breaking down the top dead layer of the skin. This provides an intense exfoliation and in turn triggers rejuvenation and repair mechanisms in your skin to improve signs of ageing, skin texture and symptoms of sun damage, including hyperpigmentation.    

May be ideal if: 

You have sun damage, ‘leathery’ looking skin, you’re looking for a pigmentation treatment, you want to improve signs of skin ageing such as wrinkles, you have some scarring and/or you want to brighten skin. 

Treatment time:

Approximately 10 minutes.

TCA chemical peel feels like:

You’ll feel a short-lived sensation of building warmth; this is temporary… seconds rather than minutes, and maybe some skin tingling.

Result timeline:

Usually after about a week you start to see your results in pigmentation, wrinkles, brightness, and luminosity. 

Most people will require a course of 2 or 3 treatments, but a single treatment can be had for a general improvement in the skin.
