This month we’re celebrating our third birthday! Our founder and MD Jane has taken the opportunity to reminisce about the last three years…
“Having worked in the industry for nearly 30 years, I decided it was time to go it alone so I could do things my way. I’d always wanted to do something a little bit different and to put the patient experience at the core of the business.
My main aim was to have highly qualified and experienced staff who could also provide great customer service. I used to work with clinical staff, who I knew would be perfect for the Clinic, and they agreed to come on board with me: Sue, our lead nurse, and Sharon, our consultant dermatologist who has a good, solid medical background. I’d already decided that I’d go into business with my daughter Kerri who had a beauty and business background, and the team was completed by two beauty therapists. In fact, all our front of house staff are qualified aesthetic practitioners who are additionally trained in the majority of treatments we offer, which means they can answer the vast majority of questions our patients may have.
My next task was to find a building to house the Clinic and I found the perfect place in the middle of St Albans’ town centre – an old 1930s building which had an art deco feel, and enormous windows which gave it a lot of light. The building was in a state of disrepair and I didn’t have a big budget; luckily my husband and brother are in the building and decorating industry, so I organised them to help with the renovations. In the end, all my friends and family mucked in, and we eventually created a lovely Clinic with a relaxing atmosphere, a lot of softness and warmth and lovely bright colours in the rooms. And we were delighted when the St Albans Civic Society granted us an award for our renovation, especially considering we were up against companies which had spent millions on theirs!
After the Mayoress officially opened the Clinic in September 2013, we gradually built up a great and very loyal clientele who like the fact they can get London aesthetic treatments at a much more convenient location.
The benefit to me of being in charge of my own clinic – as opposed to working as part of a chain – is that I can make sure every patient gets the outcome they want, whatever it takes. I can also keep an eye on the latest treatments, and if there is a demand for a particular new one, I can take the decision to add it to our portfolio as soon as possible.
I’m very happy that our award-winning standards of treatment, combined with knowledgeable and caring staff, and a great Clinic setting, have resulted in very loyal clients who are happy to shout about our service and recommend us to their friends.
Here’s to not only the next three years, but also many, many great years to come!”
We’ve received a few birthday messages which are lovely to receive!
