Blemishes

Blemishes are common in both adolescents and adults. The influences behind the development of the disease are:

  • An increased size of the sebaceous gland and increased oil production.
  • An increased production of skin cells; the body can’t shed these ‘extra’ cells fast enough and as a result the sebaceous gland follicles become blocked.
  • The blocked follicles become the perfect breeding ground for bacteria and swiftly become highly populated by “P.acnes bacteria”.
  • As an immune response to the bacteria, the follicles become inflamed. This same response can also be stimulated by hormones, for example, at puberty.

These internal factors show themselves as:

  • Blackheads
  • Whiteheads
  • Papules

It’s important to remember that there is no cure for acne, however you can be helped to understand the disease, to manage it and limit the frequency and intensity of your breakouts. It is important to find a suitable skin regime to help you to control some of the factors that contribute to acne prone and oily skin.

Treatments can include oral and topical medication and some sufferers need to take Roaccutaine, a drug that is prescribed by a dermatologist, which is designed to reduce acne.

Isolaz  –  Salicylic acid treatments

  • Isolaz®

This is a safe, effective and FDA approved treatment which has been clinically proven to help mild to moderate acne. Isolaz uses a combination of vacuum and broadband light technology to carry out effective acne treatments on all skin types. This treatment works by purifying your pores and attacking acne causing bacteria at the source; the vacuum loosens and extracts dirt, blackheads and excess oil from deep within your pores. The light is then fired into the empty pore, helping to destroy the acne causing bacteria and reduce facial redness and inflammation. Isolaz reliably treats acne without topical or oral medicines and with no lifestyle changes.

Typically, patients can see a visible improvement in the severity or redness of their acne after the first treatment. Although everyone’s skin is different, many patients who have not responded to other acne treatments, such as topical creams, Roaccutaine, antibiotics or even lasers have responded to Isolaz treatments; many patients have reported that Isolaz is a “life changing” treatment. Isolaz can be used effectively as a standalone treatment or to compliment to other acne treatments. There is no downtime with Isolaz and skin feels healthy and revitalised afterwards. Results may vary from person to person.

Normally a course of six treatments are given at weekly intervals and maintenance is offered every month to keep the skin clear. Some people require more than one course.*

*Disclaimer: Results from Isolaz® may vary from person to person, because each individual responds differently to treatments.

On a white skin, the types of marks that can remain are red, which has been caused by the inflammation and trauma of the blemishes; this can be seen in this Isolaz patient. This may fade in time, however most patients will request for this problem to be resolved quickly and seek further treatments to address this redness.

Although there can often be redness caused by inflammation on skin of colour, there can also be brown marks, often referred to as macular scars, left on the skin. Once the acne is under control these scars and any indentation in the skin can be successfully treated using a different laser, such as Clear + Brilliant or Fraxel.
