Located in St Albans, Hertfordshire, The Skin to Love Clinic was born from a desire to offer our patients non-surgical cosmetic treatments that are at the forefront of technology whilst offering a personalised and caring service. It’s because of this desire that we always start your skincare journey with a full consultation so that we can get to know you and your preferences and to educate you about your skin and the treatments that we recommend for you. We want you to be able to make an educated, informed decision about how your skin is treated.

We pride ourselves on our honest advice and draw upon our extensive wealth of expertise and clinically-proven treatments to find the best solution for you. Our core value is to find the most appropriate treatment for each patient with safety and satisfaction at the forefront of our minds; therefore, unusually, we do not operate on a commission basis.

So, Why Choose Us to Help You?

Our team is comprised of top-tier medical and aesthetic practitioners; seasoned professionals in the world of medical-aesthetics and dermatology who have a genuine interest in each of our patients.

We believe that all our patients and staff should be treated with respect and dignity. This includes using evidence-based treatments and practices to minimise risk and keep our patients and staff safe. This is reflected in our CQC rating, Save Face accreditation, and the multiple Customer Service awards we have won, in addition to being fully trained and insured.

Our commitment to assisting you to make the right treatment choice prevails everything we do. Treatment recommendations will be based on your requirements first and will not be influenced by their relative potential for financial gain.

We believe in transparency so, unusually, our staff are not incentivised by commission so you will never be pushed into a treatment that you don’t need or want.

We understand that you expect superior treatment options, in terms of both effectiveness and safety, so we don’t follow the latest trends and we would never offer you a treatment that we wouldn’t offer to our families or have ourselves.

The treatments that we offer are results-driven and supported by clinical research, that’s why we only offer you market-leading, forward thinking treatments from trusted and recommended brands such as Emsculpt Neo, Fraxel Dual, Sculptra, Thermage CPT, Profhilo, and Soprano Ice.

We also offer private dermatology consultations and treatments for ‘lumps and bumps’ such as warts, moles, and cysts. One of the most in-demand dermatology services we offer is a private mole screening service where patients can be seen, and treated if required, within a matter of weeks. Our private, CQC registered dermatology service can be easily accessed by contacting us yourself, without the need of a referral.

We are constantly looking for the most advanced and proven ways to help you feel and look your best at our skin clinic through continually striving to improve, sharing our growing experience and knowledge, holding ourselves accountable to external governing bodies, keeping abreast of the latest developments in the wider medical aesthetic industry, and seeking advanced training so that we can bring you the latest and safest treatment techniques, options, and information.

Your safety is our priority. Our skin clinic operates under the careful supervision of the Care Quality Commission (CQC), ensuring not just quality but trust. In our most recent 2023 inspection, we shone with a “GOOD” rating in all areas – a testament to our unflinching dedication to client care. Forging the path of safety and quality, we are also accredited by Save Face, an authority we voluntarily account to for regular evaluations.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How To Treat A Buildup Of Dead Skin Cells?

    +

Exfoliation will help clear the buildup of dead cells from your skin, revealing healthy layers of smooth skin, making your skin look brighter and more even; some of us may need to do this less frequently than others, depending on a number of factors. For your body skin, you can try using a soft brush in upward strokes to exfoliate your body and help with lymphatic drainage, this is called body brushing. You may also like to try body creams that contain ingredients that gradually exfoliate your skin, such as AHAs. For your face, use a gentle product at home, such as a facial wash containing an AHA or BHA and treat yourself to in-clinic skin treatments such as a chemical peel or HydraFacial, to help remove dead skin cells and refresh your skin (amongst other benefits).

Exfoliation can help cell regeneration so not only will your skin benefit now, it also has long term anti-ageing benefits. Please note, this is generalised information and not specific advice for you.

We suggest a skin consultation to create a tailored treatment plan to help your skin concerns.

What Skin Treatments Do You Offer?

    +

Our skin treatments range from those that address signs of skin ageing, to removing stretch marks, or brightening dull skin. If you have a specific skin condition or concern, we recommend reaching out to us to see if and how we may be able to help you.

We have a large suite of market-leading skin treatments available for you. In fact, we were named Leading Non-Surgical Skin Treatment Provider, Hertfordshire; one of the reasons why is for ‘excelling’ and setting ‘the highest standards by pushing boundaries and creating the most cutting-edge medical solutions’ for our clients.

We know that the amount of treatment options available can be overwhelming, which is one of the reasons why our clients start their skincare journey with a consultation with one of our experienced practitioners; prior to this consultation some of our clients queeried if they really needed a consultation because they felt sure they knew what treatment they wanted, however, after going through the consultation process they found that they better understood what treatment entails e.g. potential recovery time; in some instances the treatment they originally wanted wasn’t suitable for them as an individual; and there were many more treatments options for them to consider, some that may offer better outcomes for their concerns.

Your practitioner will assess your medical history, listen to and discuss your concerns and requirements before making their professional recommendations for you to consider, with absolutely no pressure from us to book; this is about helping you to make the right choices for your skin.

Some of our most popular treatments at our CQC registered skin clinic include Profhilo, dermal fillers, the Thread Lift, Fraxel Dual, Thermage CPT, HydraFacial and Sculptra.

    Can You Treat Acne Scars?

    +

Absolutely, we understand that dealing with acne scarring can be concerning. While some types of acne scars may fade over time, it’s important to note that most scars won’t completely disappear on their own and are unlikely to show significant improvement naturally. However, there are a number of clinically proven skin treatments that can improve the appearance of scarring, including acne scars.

Acne-related scarring varies in type and can often combine different scar types in a single area, whether it’s on the face or body. The scar types that are more likely to naturally fade to some extent are those flat, dark marks left behind by a spot-this is called post inflammatory hyperpigmentation; this isn’t technically a ‘scar’ but rather hyperpigmentation caused by the spot. As these ‘scars’ aren’t structural, they can gradually fade as your skin renews itself. However, this process can take time which we know can be frustrating for some. Luckily, the improvement can be accelerated with the use of certain products and treatments, should you wish.

On the other hand, atrophic scars with a sunken appearance – like rolling scars and boxcar scars – often require intervention for noticeable improvement. Unfortunately, these scars won’t fade without some form of treatment. It’s important to remember that different scar types may coexist in a single area, for example you may have both rolling scars and ice-pick scars on your cheek. Often, different scar types require different treatments and it’s not uncommon for those with acne scarring to have more than one treatment type within their plan. A thorough assessment by a practitioner is necessary to determine the best treatment plan for you.

We offer a range of treatments at our Hertfordshire skin clinic to address various acne scar types:

Fraxel Dual Laser: This non-invasive fractional laser stimulates collagen production and replaces damaged skin cells for smoother, healthier skin.

Derma FNS Micro-Needling: Micro-needling stimulates skin repair starting the wound healing response and renewal to improve both macular and atrophic scars.

Regenlite Pulse Dye Laser: This laser triggers collagen regeneration and skin rejuvenation, it can help soften redness in the skin left after acne.

Clear + Brilliant Laser: A milder fractional laser suitable for macular scarring and reducing some atrophic scars.

Subcision: This technique targets tethered scars by breaking down the connections beneath them, helping to lift the scar.

PRP Treatment: Uses growth factors from your plasma to trigger skin healing and regeneration, improving atrophic scars. This can be used on its own or during other treatments such as micro-needling.

Byonik Treatment: Combines hyaluronic acid and LED light therapy for improved skin redness, inflammation, and regeneration.

Dermal Fillers: These can be effective in temporarily improving the appearance of indented scars by restoring volume to the area.

It’s essential to approach your treatment plan with realistic expectations. While these treatments can significantly improve the appearance of scars, they might not completely remove them. We’re dedicated to helping you achieve noticeable improvement and a smoother, healthier complexion to make you feel more confident about your skin. For more information on these treatments, feel free to contact our Hertfordshire skin clinic – or read this blog on Acne-related scarring and treatments.

Does Your Skin Clinic Offer Laser Hair Removal?

    +

Yes, we offer Laser Hair Removal and have done since we opened our doors in 2013.

If you’re searching for a reliable and effective solution for laser hair removal, you’ve come to the right place. At the Skin to Love Clinic, we understand the flood of options in the market and the importance of choosing the right clinic for your needs. With decades of experience and a proven track record, our MD and nurse, Jane, was part of pioneering the field since the early days of laser hair removal in the UK.

The laser we use for laser hair removal is the Soprano Ice which can treat all skin tones.

What Is A Common Skin Concern That Your Clinic Addresses?

    +

Ageing Skin: Ageing skin is quite a sweeping label as often one persons ‘ageing skin’ presents itself quite differently to others. Sagging skin, wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, loss of facial volume, crepiness, liver spots, hollowness under the eyes; some of the many concerns that present themselves as our skin and body age.

At our CQC registered and Save Face accredited clinic, we have a large suite of market-leading skin treatments and highly qualified, experienced medical and aesthetic practitioners available to you, helping you to look and feel your best at the age you’re at.

We believe the skin treatments and aesthetics are a very personal choice. Our specialism is natural-looking treatment outcomes which we create with clinically-proven treatment technology and advanced techniques.

Some of our most popular treatments for skin and body rejuvenation include Thermage, Sculptra, Fraxel Dual, HIFU skin tightening, and dermal fillers which target your specific, and unique, concerns about ageing skin.

Sun Damage: Lifelong prevention is key to managing sun damage; regular use of a high-SPF sunscreen not only helps shield your skin from harm but also a study in the journal Dermatologic Surgery shows that using a daily SPF can actually reverse signs of photoaging such as wrinkles and some forms of hyperpigmentation. Embrace the habit of using sunscreen daily, even during colder months.

If you’ve found that pigmentation or wrinkles have already occurred, effective treatments are available. The Fraxel laser targets damaged areas of your skin, stimulating the growth of healthy cells and replacing the old, damaged cells. Clear + Brilliant uses fractional laser technology, very similar to the Fraxel laser, to address early signs of ageing and uneven texture; hence its nickname-the baby Fraxel. Obagi Nu-Derm, a prescription-strength treatment program, effectively treats melasma, sun-induced pigmentation, and other signs of skin ageing. Consistent sun protection and where possible, sun avoidance, is crucial post-treatment to maintain results and prevent additional damage which can start the skin ageing and hyperpigmentation processes in the skin.

Acne and Oily Skin: For those with acne-prone skin, avoiding the urge to strip it of oil is important, as this can exacerbate the issue for example Tea Tree oil, commonly used to dry out skin, can trigger excessive oil production because. Mild acne cases and oily skin can often be managed with at-home products. However, more severe categories of acne can often lead to scarring and necessitate intervention. Our CQC registered clinic offers skin treatment options to help including Regenlite, Isolaz, and Byonik, which address some of the contributing factors to acne, helping you to manage this often upsetting skin disease.

Rosacea: Rosacea often manifests as persistent redness, flushing, and facial broken veins typically on the cheeks, nose, and forehead. Though its exact cause is unknown, individuals manage symptoms effectively with dietary adjustments, stress management, at-home products, and in-clinic treatments. Advanced technology like Regenlite targets surface blood vessels to alleviate background redness; Veinwave is particularly effective in addressing visible thread veins, offering a visible improvement in these symptoms associated with the condition. Rosacea skin treatment often requires a combination of treatments to most effectively address the varied symptoms of this condition; Mandelic skin peels are often used to reduce and manage background redness, as well as reduce skin inflammation often associated with rosacea. The Byonik treatment is an extremely powerful tool in managing rosacea; from repairing the skin barrier, which is often compromised in those of use with rosacea, to reducing inflammation and calming redness and spots.

Dehydrated Skin: If you experience tightness after washing your face, it could be a sign of dehydrated skin, a common skin concern. To combat this, using a moisturiser is essential to reduce water loss, helping your body to maintain your skin hydration; this doesn’t need to be an all-singing-all-dancing product, a simple SPF designed for the face can work effectively as your moisturiser, as well as protecting you from UV rays. Incorporating a serum containing hyaluronic acid (HA) is highly recommended as this quickly and effectively works on the deeper layers of your skin to rehydrate it.

With well hydrated skin cells, you’ll notice increased plumpness and improved overall health, alleviating the sensation of tightness and, often, helping to soften and plump wrinkles.

Skin products are just one aspect of your skincare, however if you want more dramatic, and often quicker, results there are many treatments that you can consider. The Byonik treatment addresses both dehydration and ageing skin, as does Profhilo.
