Small But Powerful Injections
Mesotherapy is a versatile treatment which can be used to alleviate a wide range of problems. Mesotherapy introduces microscopic quantities of volume, hydration, pharmaceuticals or vitamins and minerals into the skin or scalp to help it rejuvenate and repair itself. This is performed using a very small needle and is not a particularly uncomfortable process.
The premise of mesotherapy body treatments is to deliver potent skincare ingredients into the lower layers of your skin to trigger a specific response; there is no set cocktail of ingredients used in this treatment, which means that it can be tailored to help your specific needs.
Your mesotherapy cocktail of skincare ingredients can be delivered into the skin either by a series of small injections into the mesodermal layer of your skin or during a micro-needling treatment. Additionally, micro-needling will trigger a regenerative response from your skin. Your practitioner will discuss the method of delivery with you prior to treatment as each is best suited for different concerns. You may even utilise both methods over a course of treatment.
Glowing Skin Rejuvenation
Mesotherapy works somewhat differently depending on the exact nature of the treatment. For example, when used to treat cellulite, mesotherapeutic injections are injected into the fat layer beneath the skin, where fat cells will become broken down and shrunken. On the other hand, the treatment for dark circles around the eyes combines a mixture of different procedures – including mesotherapy – to make the eyes look brighter and younger.
Miniscule amounts of carefully chosen injectable solutions like hyaluronic acid, for example, are injected using a series of tiny injections. The nature of the injection solution is chosen according to the patient’s needs overall they aim to help improve your skin quality, increase your collagen and elastin production, tighten loose skin cells and help with facial skin rejuvenation.
How Long Does it Take for Mesotherapy to Work?
This depends on what you’re trying to achieve. If you are trying to correct a skin problem such as a deep wrinkle, you may need multiple treatments to achieve the type of softening of that wrinkle that you’re hoping for. With that said, you can often start to notice some subtle changes a day or so after your treatment. Mesotherapy can instantly improve dull skin, help with facial rejuvenation, and reduce localised fat.
If your skin is particularly dehydrated from sun exposure, you may notice an almost immediate plumping of your skin as your collagen production gets a boost.
Will Mesotherapy Tighten Skin & Improve Skin Quality?
Mesotherapy body treatments can tighten the skin as a result of certain ingredients being introduced to the area and helping with skin rejuvenation. These ingredients trigger a response within your skin to create new elastin and collagen which can result in firmer, tighter glowing skin. It does this by helping improve sluggish blood circulation and revitalise dull skin.
Can Mesotherapy Help with Excess Fat and Uneven Skin Tone?
If micro-needling is used during your treatment, the action of this therapy also triggers a regenerative mechanism within your skin. You can read more about Derma FNS micro-needling here.
It is important to note that Mesotherapy is a non-surgical treatment, and all non-surgical treatments should not be considered a like-for-like alternative to cosmetic surgery. In some cases where the skin is particularly, lax surgical treatment may be a more effective option and/or a combination of non-surgical treatments may be recommended for optimal results.
Is Mesotherapy Painful?
At The Skin to Love Clinic, we usually prepare your skin with a local anaesthetic cream prior to a micro-needling treatment which makes the procedure extremely comfortable. Most of our patients don’t require local anaesthetic prior to needle mesotherapy, as most report the feeling of small scratches. However, if you are particularly nervous about how it may feel, the option is available to numb the treatment area prior.
While the process can be slightly uncomfortable, the needles used in mesotherapy are extremely fine, so the procedure is a lot more comfortable than you’d think and shouldn’t be painful in any way. Dr Barbara Kubicka recognises areas that may be more sensitive and inject accordingly using precise techniques. If required, a local anaesthetic gel/cream can be applied in advance if required. For more intensive procedures or sensitive areas, a local anaesthetic can be administered if necessary.
Are Mesotherapy and Micro-Needling the Same Thing?
No. Mesotherapy is traditional with a needle. You can however micro-needle the skin using a mesotherapy cocktail and have a mesotherapy effect by allowing the tiny holes created by the micro-needling device to penetrate the skin at a certain depth (approximately 2mm).
Where to Get Mesotherapy?
You can have mesotherapy on your face and you can have mesotherapy on your body. Commonly on the body, mesotherapy is used to help the appearance of stretch marks, some types of scars and ageing skin. Facial mesotherapy sessions are commonly had to improve various signs of ageing skin, some types of scars and to generally improve the health and look of the skin.
Can Mesotherapy Regrow Hair?
This treatment can assist with hair loss; hair transplant surgeons often recommend mesotherapy with PRP (platelet-rich plasma) to improve the health of the scalp, and the quality of the skin and improve blood supply to the area.
Am I Too Young to Have Mesotherapy?
This treatment can be a corrective treatment, meaning that if you have a specific skin ‘problem’ such as wrinkles or crepy skin then mesotherapy can help to ‘correct’ it. However, this treatment can help to maintain youthful-looking skin, reduce superficial wrinkles and improve its health by deeply hydrating it and vitamins and amino acids into it to further enhance its appearance and act as a preventative treatment.
So, if your skin doesn’t require much correction and you’re taking basic steps to maintain your skin, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t consider this treatment in your 20s and 30’s to maintain and improve healthy skin.
I am Looking for Dramatic Correction for Signs of Skin Ageing. Is Mesotherapy Right For Me?
We will be able to give your specific advice during your consultation. However, as with all non-surgical treatments, you will not achieve the same level of correction as you may do with some types of cosmetic surgery, such as a facelift.
Is Hyaluronic Acid Right For Me?
You and your practitioner will design a treatment plan for your concerns and skincare aims which may include using this treatment alongside other rejuvenation treatments, such as Byonik, Thermage, Thread Lift, Fraxel Dual and dermal fillers, if necessary.
Does Mesotherapy Really Work?
The bottom line. Mesotherapy is a promising treatment to remove excess fat and body contouring. Mesotherapy is effective on a wide range of problems on the face and body, and so patients can realistically be of any age or gender.
Mesotherapy is most commonly used to treat and alleviate:
- Cellulite
- Stretch marks
- Dry, flaky skin
- Tight skin
- Loose, ageing skin
- Hair loss
- Dark circles around the eyes
- Sun-damaged skin
How Long Does Mesotherapy Treatment Last?
Months to years depending on the concern treated and the number of mesotherapy sessions. If you are treating scarring, the result from this treatment should not reverse as the regeneration has taken place. However, the treatment does not halt the ageing process and any remaining scarring may change in appearance as you naturally age.
What is the Difference Between Microneedling and Mesotherapy?
Both Mesotherapy and Microneedling are treatments that are done in-office using tiny needles, but they’re not the same thing. Mesotherapy injects while Microneedling only makes superficial wounds. You can micro-needle the skin using a mesotherapy cocktail and have a mesotherapy effect by allowing the tiny holes created by the micro-needling device to penetrate the skin at a certain depth (approximately 2mm).
I am very pleased with the advice and products I was given, and I am looking forward to seeing the results! THANK YOU – Erin
