Mesotherapy is a versatile treatment that either uses micro-needling or very fine injections to infuse your skin with a combination of ingredients; these ingredients are specifically chosen for you and what you would like to achieve, but largely they include a combination hyaluronic acid, vitamins and amino acids. These ingredients help correct concerns such as crepy skin, pigmentation or thin, dehydrated skin, for example.
Mesotherapy treatment is a targeted way of directly treating skin concerns that are present in the deeper layers of your skin, such as wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, sagging and scarring. Mesotherapy can also be used as a preventative treatment or to brighten and deeply hydrate dull-looking skin, anywhere on the face or body.
The premise of mesotherapy treatments is to deliver potent skincare ingredients into the lower layers of your skin to trigger a specific response; there is no set cocktail of ingredients used in this treatment, which means that it can be tailored to help your specific needs.
Your mesotherapy cocktail of skincare ingredients can be delivered into the skin either by a series of small injections into the mesodermal layer of your skin or during a micro-needling treatment. Additionally, micro-needling will trigger a regenerative response from your skin. Your practitioner will discuss the method of delivery with you prior to treatment as each is best suited for different concerns. You may even utilise both methods over a course of treatment.
This depends on what you’re trying to achieve. If you are trying to correct a skin problem such as a deep wrinkle, you may need multiple treatments to achieve the type of softening of that wrinkle that you’re hoping for. With that said, you can often start to notice some subtle changes a day or so after your treatment.
If your skin is particularly dehydrated, you may notice an almost immediate plumping of your skin.
Mesotherapy treatments can tighten the skin as a result of certain ingredients being introduced to the area. These ingredients trigger a response within your skin to create new elastin and collagen which can result in firmer, tighter skin.
If micro-needling is used during your treatment, the action of this therapy also triggers a regenerative mechanism within your skin. You can read more about Derma FNS micro-needling here.
It is important to note that Mesotherapy is a non-surgical treatment, and all non-surgical treatments should not be considered a like-for-like alternative to cosmetic surgery. In some cases where skin is particularly, lax surgical treatment may be a more effective option and/or a combination of non-surgical treatments may be recommended for optimal results.
At The Skin to Love Clinic, we usually prepare your skin with a local anaesthetic cream prior to a micro-needling treatment which makes the procedure extremely comfortable. Most of our patients don’t require local anaesthetic prior to needle mesotherapy, as most report the feeling of small scratches. However, if you are particularly nervous about how it may feel, the option is available to numb the treatment area prior.
No. Mesotherapy is traditionally with a needle. You can however micro-needle the skin using a mesotherapy cocktail and have a mesotherapy effect by allowing the tiny holes created by the micro-needling device penetrate the skin at a certain depth (approximately 2mm).
You can have mesotherapy on your face and you can have mesotherapy on your body. Commonly on the body, mesotherapy is used to help the appearance of stretch marks, some types of scars and ageing skin. Facial mesotherapy treatments are commonly had to improve various signs of ageing skin, some types of scars and to generally improve the health and look of the skin.
This treatment can assist with hair regrowth; hair transplant surgeons often recommend mesotherapy with PRP (platelet rich plasma) to improve the health of the scalp, quality of the skin and to improve blood supply to the area.
Am I too young to have Mesotherapy?
This treatment can be a corrective treatment, meaning that if you have a specific skin ‘problem’ such as wrinkles or crepy skin then mesotherapy can help to ‘correct’ it. However, this treatment can help to maintain a youthful-looking skin and improve it’s heath by deeply hydrating it and vitamins and amino acids into it to further enhance its appearance and to act as a preventative treatment.
So, if your skin doesn’t require much correction and you’re taking basic steps to maintain your skin, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t consider this treatment in your 20’s and 30’s to maintain and improve healthy skin.
I am looking for dramatic correction for signs of skin aging. Is mesotherapy right for me?
We will be able to give your specific advice during your consultation. However, as with all non-surgical treatments you will not achieve the same level of correction as you may do with some types of cosmetic surgery, such as a face lift.
You and your practitioner will design a treatment plan for your concerns and skincare aims which may include using this treatment alongside other rejuvenation treatments, such as Byonik, Thermage, Thread Lift, Fraxel Dual and dermal fillers, if necessary.
I am very pleased with the advice and products I was given, and I am looking forward to seeing the results! THANK YOU – Erin

No. of treatments
Usually, a course of treatment is recommended.
This depends on the method of mesotherapy used. Immediately after needle mesotherapy there can be very small bumps in the area treated which generally subsides within 12-24 hours. Although a small risk with this treatment, all injectable treatments have a risk of bruising at the site of injection. If micro-needling has been used, the area may look flushed, and this usually subsides within 12 to 24 hours.
Depends on the size of the area being treated, but the average hands or face treatment takes 30 minutes.
Some changes may be noticed after 1st treatment; however, this will depend on your concern and the level of correction needed. A course of treatment is usually recommended.
Duration of results
Months to years dependent on the concern treated and the number of mesotherapy treatment sessions. If you are treating scarring, the result from this treatment should not reverse as the regeneration has taken place. However, the treatment does not halt the ageing process and any remaining scarring may change in appearance as you naturally age.
Resume usual activities
Immediately for most activities. Avoid swimming for 48 hours and extreme temperatures for 7 days. Avoid massaging the area treated for 24 hours. Full aftercare will be provided prior to treatment. Full aftercare will be provided prior to treatment.
