Dermal Fillers

At The Skin to Love Clinic we use hyaluronic acid based fillers; hyaluronic acid is found naturally within your skin and is replicated in dermal filler products for treatment purposes. Hyaluronic acid acts like a sponge to retain large amounts of water which help to keep the skin plumped and soft. In the filler syringes that your practitioner will use, the hyaluronic acid comes in the form of a soft gel.

The dermal filler is injected strategically in to the desired area to either increase volume in the area, for example, into the lips; to redefine an area that is no longer as sharp as it once was, for example, along the jawline or the cheekbones; to smooth areas of depression, for example, lines and wrinkles from the nose to mouth.

The results we offer are natural and not the ‘over-filled’ look. We use several filler brands at the clinic including Teosyal, Radiesse, Belotero and Juvéderm; your practitioner will give guidance and use their extensive experience to match the type of filler they feel is the most appropriate type for you, your treatment area and your desired outcome during your consultation.

Indications that this treatment may be right for you:

• You have nose to mouth lines that you wish to soften
• You have marionette lines that you wish to soften
• You have noticed a loss of natural volume in the cheeks and midface
• You have noticed that your jawline is not as sharp as it once was

I have lost some volume in my face but don’t want to look like I’ve had work done. Is this possible to achieve with dermal fillers?

Yes. We prefer to use small amounts of filler each session so that you achieve a natural look. We can gradually build the product up to achieve your results so that you are comfortable that we are not over treating you, especially if you have never had this treatment previously.

There’s a particular celebrity I would like to look similar to. Can this be done with dermal fillers?

No, we would not attempt to do this because each person is totally different and unique; your bone structure and features are completely unique to you. We want to make you look the best that you can look and make the most of your one-of-a-kind features, not try to imitate another person. It’s unlikely you would be satisfied with your results if this was attempted.

Are fillers safe?

Temporary fillers have a good safety profile. It is very rare to get serious complications. At The Skin to Love Clinic you will only ever be treated by a medical professional with extensive experience and the skills to handle complications.

Hypothetically, if the fillers were misplaced or a patient was not happy with the placement of the product it could be dissolved quickly by injecting a safe, enzyme-based product into the area.

Are there side effects to fillers?

Temporary fillers have a good safety profile. Swelling and bruising are the most common potential side effects immediately following treatment.  At The Skin to Love Clinic you will only ever be treated by a medical professional with extensive experience and the skills to handle complications.

Consultations are an important part of the treatment process in allowing you to understand the treatment and to establish if the benefits of the treatment are outweighed by any possible side effects. During a consultation your characteristics, such as your area of concern and your medical status, will be assessed. Your medical practitioner will be able to discuss whether this treatment is appropriate for you, as well as any suitable alternative treatments.

Your practitioner will discuss any possible side effects, questions you may have and any aftercare you should adhere to prior to you having treatment.

If I don’t have fillers again, will I look worse than I did before?

No. The product will gradually wear off and you will reverse to how you looked prior to the treatment and your natural ageing process will continue. This treatment does not stop that natural ageing process.

How long do fillers last?

This can vary depending on where you have the treatment and the product used. Products designed to be placed superficially and treatment in areas where there is a lot of movement, such as wrinkles the mouth, fillers usually last between 3 and 12 months. In cases where the product used is thicker and used to create deep volume, such as in the cheeks, the treatment results usually last 6 to 18 months.

Your lifestyle and your metabolic rate usually influence the longevity of your results. For example, in our experience, those who smoke or frequently do cardio work-outs can break-down the filler faster than those who do not.

Do fillers hurt?

The level of discomfort is usually found to be mild and tolerable by patients. The dermal fillers used at The Skin to Love Clinic contain local anaesthetic which greatly improve your comfort. We understand that that each person’s tolerance to pain is different however and are happy to offer our patients additional local anaesthetic cream prior to the procedure should this be a concern of yours.
