Stretch marks, sometimes referred to as stria or striae, are tears or rips in the skin often caused by a stretching of the skin. These long, thin marks are often purple or red to start with and then they tend to gradually fade to a white-silver colour. This is an extremely common concern that most of us will experience at some stage during our lives.
Anybody can develop stretch marks and their severity and cause can be affected by a number of different factors. Many people notice stretch marks occurring during puberty, during pregnancy or after rapid weight gain or weight loss. Some patients may also notice the development of stretch marks if they are using some types of medication or if they have certain medical disorders.
With intervention, such as treatment, your stretch marks may be improved to the point that they no longer bother you; redness can be greatly improved, as can the size of the marks and the quality of the skin. Some of the options we have at The Skin to Love Clinic include Regenlite, Fraxel, Derma FNS and PRP.
If you would like to discuss treatments for your stretch marks, please do not hesitate to contact our friendly team who will happily arrange a consultation for you.
