Stretch marks sometimes referred to as stria or striae, are tears or rips in the skin often caused by a stretching of the skin. These long, thin marks are often purple or red to start with and then they tend to gradually fade to a white-silver colour. Stretch marks are an extremely common concern that most of us will experience at some stage during our lives.
Anybody can develop stretch marks and their severity and cause can be affected by several different factors. Many people notice stretch marks occurring during puberty, during pregnancy or after rapid weight gain or weight loss. Some patients may also notice the development of stretch marks if they are using some types of medication or if they have certain medical disorders.
With intervention, such as treatment, your stretch marks may be improved to the point that they no longer bother you; redness can be greatly improved, as can the size of the marks and the quality of the skin. Some of the options we have for stretch mark removal at The Skin to Love Clinic include:
If you would like to discuss stretch mark removal treatment, please do not hesitate to contact our friendly team who will happily arrange a consultation for you.
It’s not possible to 100% remove a stretch mark with any product or treatment, however, you can dramatically fade them to the point that you may not be worried about their appearance anymore.
There are many products on the market that can help prevent stretch marks; these would need to be used religiously in order to have an impact. Some people still get stretch marks although they have used products in a preventative manner; it is impossible for us to say if their stretch marks would have been worse had they not used the preventative product(s).
Once a stretch mark has formed, there are many ways in which you can treat it; if red, this can be improved with treatments such as the Regenlite laser. If the stretch mark is silvery in colour then this can be treated with procedures such as Fraxel Dual, PRP and Derma FNS.
There is no strict answer for this; stretch marks are much like scars, they too are tears in your skin, and all are slightly different. Additionally, all individuals respond differently. The type of treatment, the age and appearance of your stretch marks are all taken into consideration at the time of assessment so you can be given a clearer idea about how many sessions are expected.

The your preferences, the age and appearance of your stretch marks are all taken into consideration at the time of your consultation and assessment so you can be given a clear idea about what treatment(s) are best suited to your particular stretch marks and how many treatments your practitioner suggests; following this your practitioner will be able to give you the cost of your individual treatments and treatment plan.
There’s no ‘best’ method of removal across the board (as with all medicine). It is more about the most appropriate treatment for the individual. However, this does not mean that all treatments are equal nor if the knowledge and experience of those who are treating you. At The Skin to Love Clinic we only ever bring treatments into the Clinic that are clinically proven and we only align ourselves with premium treatment brands and devices such as Fraxel Dual.
Once a stretch mark appears, they will not disappear on their own. They are likely to change appearance however, often turning from red to white/silver. Nevertheless, stretch marks can be greatly improved with treatment, often to the point where you’re no longer bothered by them anymore.
Stretch marks are tears in the skin which can appear for different reasons and at different times of our lives; the most common being during puberty, during pregnancy and as a result of weight changes.
