Sometimes we can need a little help when it comes to trimming down fat and toning up our stomach. In our experience, clients come to us looking for some non-surgical support when they:
- Have been consistent with exercise and a balanced diet but struggle to reach their goals.
- Have been pregnant and find that their abdomen isn’t as strong as it was prior; there may be some fat that they wish to reduce on their stomach, and they want to get back to feeling more comfortable about their appearance and in their clothes.
- Have a diastasis recti. The separation of the abdominal muscles that occurs during pregnancy. For most, this gap closes on its own, but for some the separation is persistent requiring physical therapy and exercises.
- Have had an injury and want to focus on building muscle strength in a targeted area.
- Simply want to enhance their figure by reducing fat and toning muscles.
At our non-surgical fat removal clinic, we have several data-supported treatment options to reduce fat without going under the surgeon's knife. Emsculpt Neo is different in that it reduces fat but also tones and strengthens the underlying muscles in the targeted area at the same time.
What Does Emsculpt Neo Do?
Emsculpt Neo is a non-invasive treatment which targets two things: fat and muscle. It’s essentially two treatments in one. Emsculpt Neo uses two different types of technology: Radio frequency energy and high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) energy. HIFEM stimulates supramaximal muscle contractions in your targeted area which builds and tones muscle and causes fat loss. The average person increases their muscle mass following a course of Emsculpt Neo treatments by 24%. Radio Frequency safely heats the targeted fat in a controlled way to shrink the targeted fat cells. The radio frequency technology was introduced into the Emsculpt Neo device, an upgrade to the original ‘Emsculpt’ treatment to enhance fat reduction further. The average person achieves a 30% reduction in the treated fat with Emsculpt Neo.
One of the major benefits of having Emsculpt Neo stomach is that in one study MRI evaluation showed an average reduction of -17.8% (15.8 cm2) in visceral adipose tissue*. Visceral fat is fat that sits around the abdominal organs and contributes to serious health issues such as some cancers, diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure.
What Does Emsculpt Neo Feel Like?
Emsculpt Neo can feel quite peculiar on your first session because it’s a sensation that you’ll likely not have experienced before. The most obvious sensation is the involuntary muscle contractions in the treated area; these are not painful contractions, like a muscle cramp for example, but you can expect to feel a strong contraction and release of your targeted muscles. Some people often laugh as they experience the sensation! My advice is not to try to fight the involuntary muscle movements; just breathe and surrender to the movement and you’ll soon get used to it.
The other sensation that you’ll notice is warmth in the treatment area from the radio frequency energy. This sensation tends to be less intense than the muscle contraction and most find it a very comforting sensation, a bit like having a hot water bottle on the area.
Emsculpt Neo is a completely personalised treatment so your practitioner can and will adjust your treatment settings so that you’re comfortable whilst still receiving a therapeutic treatment. Your practitioner will ask you for feedback whilst she’s setting your treatment parameters and can work with you to ensure that you’re comfortable. Your treatment shouldn’t be painful so please give feedback to your practitioner so that they can make you comfortable; the beauty of this treatment is that you don’t break a sweat whilst toning your muscle and reducing your fat!
Where Can You Use Emsculpt Neo?
There are many places that you can have this body treatment. These treatments are:
- Emsculpt Neo legs (calves)
Possibly the most popular treatment areas at our Emsculpt Neo St. Albans clinic are the stomach, thighs, and arms. Check out our Instagram to see Emsculpt Neo in action on these areas.
Emsculpt Neo for Diastasis Recti?
Emsculpt Neo is used to improve diastasis recti. Not only can diastasis recti impact your appearance and how you feel in your clothes, but it can lead to other problems including chronic low back pain, urinary incontinence, constipation, pain during sex, and pelvic or hip pain.
Clinical studies have shown diastasis recti can be improved by up to 19% with a course of Emsculpt Neo. If physical therapy exercises have been recommended to help your diastasis recti then Emsculpt Neo will be suitable to support any exercises that you’ve been doing. We would expect you to see quicker results with Emsculpt Neo treatments than physical therapy and at-home exercises alone. In an ideal world, you would use Emsculpt Neo alongside your at-home exercises for the very best outcome.
We recommend that, as with any health issue or injury, you go to your GP to get a diagnosis of diastasis recti and to assess whether there’s a hernia; you cannot have Emsculpt Neo over a hernia.
Emsculpt Neo and Emsella: Is This a Good Combination?
Emsculpt Neo and Emsella can be a great combination and a combination that we’ve often recommended for clients who have weakness in their core body strength as well as their pelvic floor. We call it the ‘Core to the Floor’ treatment.
Core to the Floor is a particularly good combination for those who have experienced pregnancy and childbirth; those who have lost the muscle strength and tone in their stomach; even those experiencing muscle separation (diastasis recti); as well as those who experience pelvic floor weakness and urinary incontinence.
Also, Floor to the Core is a great choice for adults concerned about the effects ageing has on our bone density and muscle mass; two key players in morbidity and physical disability as we age. These negative changes start to happen to our body with the onset of perimenopause, which can be as young as our 30s and 40s. Learn more about how perimenopause and menopause can impact our muscle and bone health and some tips on counteracting those effects.
Oh, and both Emsella and Emsculpt Neo treatments are 100% NON-invasive; you remain fully clothed the entire time.

Emsculpt Neo: Is It Safe?
Emsculpt Neo sounds good... it’s got clinical data supporting its effectiveness... you’ve probably even seen some Emsculpt Neo before and after photos... but is it safe?
Yes, Emsculpt Neo is considered safe and has FDA approval. There are contraindications; most commonly, you cannot have Emsculpt Neo if you have metal or electronic implants or if you are pregnant. We also would not treat over a hernia. Your practitioner will consult with you prior to treatment, including taking a medical history, to ensure that it’s safe for you to have the treatment and so that you are aware of potential side effects.
The main side effect is the same as a good work out; temporary muscle soreness and/or muscle tiredness. This usually only lasts the same amount of time it would from a regular workout. However, considering that the treatment triggers supramaximal muscle contractions (meaning engaging all the muscle fibers beyond what you’re capable of in voluntary movement and exercise) giving you the equivalent to 20,000 muscle contractions, you do not feel like it the next day. The clever wizards who created Emsculpt Neo incorporated cycles into each session to help clear out the buildup of lactic acid within the muscles, which is the cause of sore muscles post-exercise. Hooray!
