Undoubtably laser hair removal can be life changing for both men and women but possibly the answer to this question lies in your expectation of the treatment. Let me explain.
Before beginning laser hair removal treatment, it is crucial to have a consultation and patch test. This helps discuss treatment options, assess skin & hair suitability, and answer any questions you may have.
Laser hair removal is not an exact science. This is true no matter what laser device treats you or who treats you. Simply, no one can (or should) guarantee the type of laser hair removal results you will achieve because, frankly, nobody knows. What we can do is give you a good idea of what the average achieves. In fact, this is the same for many treatments in both medical aesthetics and mainstream medicine. Diode laser hair removal, an advanced system effective for all skin tones and hair colors, has been around for decades. We have a good understanding of what the average person achieves from treatment but how you respond as a unique individual is to be seen. Like I say, it is not an exact science.
There are people for whom laser hair removal works beautifully. I haven’t had to remove hair on my bikini line for well over a decade, for example. However, it’s not uncommon for people to require additional treatments and/or maintenance treatments for long lasting hair reduction. In very unusual cases (in our experience) there will be people who are non-responders to treatment (again, much like in mainstream medicine). I think I can recall one person not responding to the treatment, despite careful selection and consulting to ensure that they would, theoretically, be a good candidate for laser hair treatment. It turned out that their close relative also had the same problem-was a non-responder-at a different clinic, being treated with a different laser. Like I say, this scenario is unlikely.
Consistency is key when it comes to laser hair removal. You’re required to have treatments at a frequency that’s been determined to offer you the best results; it’s all timed around the hair growth cycle and your practitioner will advise you on this. Where possible, stick to these recommended timings as closely as possible. Remember, laser hair removal treatment is not a ‘one and done’ situation, you’ll need multiple treatment sessions to achieve your best results.
Following your aftercare is also of the utmost importance when it comes to laser hair removal being effective. You’ll be asked not to remove the hair that’s being treated in between laser sessions; this means no plucking, pulling, waxing, or epilating the hairs. We need the hair to be in your skin to be effective. Laser hair removal targets and treats hair follicles with gentle pulses of laser energy. You can manage any hair growth throughout your course of treatment via trimming or shaving.
Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?
No type of laser hair removal is classed as permanent; as I mentioned before, laser hair removal is not an exact science. We use laser hair removal as a longer-term way to manage unwanted hair growth.
Multiple sessions of diode laser hair removal are needed to achieve permanent hair reduction.
The aim of laser hair removal is to permanently destroy the hair follicle from which the hair grows. If this is achieved, then the hair should not grow back. However, I’d recommend going into your treatment with the understanding that you may have some regrowth of your hair, especially hair that is hormonally stimulated, such as that on the face, or as a symptom of a condition such as PCOS.
I’m not saying that permanent hair removal may not be achieved by anyone, ever. It may be possible for you to eliminate your hair growth. As I said, I’ve not had bikini line regrowth in over a decade which is amazing; I am prepared that the day may come when I require further laser treatment. If you get anything from this article, I’d love it to be that you should think of this treatment as a longer-term way of managing your hair growth rather than thinking that you’ll never have to manage some level of regrowth ever again.
Will a Laser Hair Removal Session Work on Blonde Hair?
Diode laser hair removal is effective on various hair colours, including dark, coarse, and pale hairs. Darker hair tends to respond more favorably to laser hair removal. White or very blond hair is unlikely to respond due to the lack of pigmentation. Hair removal lasers target and are absorbed by pigmentation. Blond hair often has very little pigmentation which means that it probably won’t be picked up by a hair removal laser.
