The natural ageing process to the skin is inevitable and whilst it is possible to keep some of the effects under control ourselves by maintaining a healthy diet, drinking plenty of water and exercising frequently, we can also make sure that we’re using a good skincare regime and getting plenty of restorative sleep too to keep those tell-tale signs at bay.
These measures will all help to keep our skin looking healthy. However, loss of volume to the face is unavoidable with the physical and biological changes that take place when we age. This is primarily due to the shrinkage and dropping of your facial fat pads, the natural reabsorption of our bone and, occasionally, tooth loss; these all cause structural changes which can leave our faces looking flat, undefined and the lower face heavy-looking.
That’s not to mention the reduced amounts of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid produced in the skin which can all contribute to sagging skin around the jawline, neck and mid-face area.
Two of the treatments that we offer in our St Albans skin clinic have been developed to help to minimise the effects of ageing. Thread Lift and Thermage are both high-end, non-surgical facelift treatments for rejuvenating ageing skin. Whilst they aren’t replacements for surgery, they are ideal for those who want to hold off on going ahead with surgical procedures for as long as possible and want a look that’s perhaps not as obvious as the one they would get after surgery.
Both Thermage and Thread Lift non-surgical facelift treatments can be used in conjunction with each other and we have seen fantastic results in our patients who have combined the two together. They can be used on the face and body and as a bonus, Thermage can also be used on the eyelids particularly if you’ve noticed that yours are becoming more hooded.
Both treatments have excellent results when used on their own too and during your consultation with our medical practitioners, we will be able to advise you as to which treatment will be most suited to you depending on your skin type, what you would like to achieve and how quickly you would like to achieve it. We are all different, so what may be the best treatment for your skin may not be for your friend.
If you’re looking to continue your usual activities straight off the treatment couch, Thermage is the ideal treatment for you. Your skin is not broken whatsoever during the Thermage face-lift treatment because it uses Radio Frequency technology to kickstart your skin into remodelling itself, causing it to tighten and firm. Visit our Thermage clinic Hertfordshire for thread treatment for face and body.
Your results then develop over a number of months as your body is hard at work creating new collagen deep down in your skin to give you that much needed rejuvenating boost. This deep collagen stimulation is what gives you long-term results in comparison to other treatments which stimulate more superficial collagen production.
Most people can see results after three months; however, some may take another few months to appreciate their full results. It is particularly effective for firming and tightening crepey and lined, ageing skin which needs to get its ‘bounce’ back and restore a more youthful appearance. It’s also our go-to treatment for improving heavy, ageing eyelids.
With some minimal downtime involved, the Thread Lift treatment requires the intricate placing of multiple threads into the skin which have an immediate lifting effect. A cannula is used to carefully place the threads into the treatment area. While these threads settle into place, there are some things to consider, such as, if you have your jawline treated, it’s advisable to avoid dental work for a little while after treatment as you may find any rough movement in that area becomes uncomfortable.
We find that the neck thread lift procedure gives you almost instant results. Thread lifts give you changes in smoothing and lifting, which can often be seen immediately, this is the ideal treatment if you are looking for quick results. In fact, our practitioners have been known to show their clients a mirror after they have treated one side of their face so that they can see the immediate change!
The full results of the Thread Lift treatment continue to be seen some months after the procedure as the threads stimulate a rush of collagen production which further helps to improve the quality of your skin and overall result. Threads lifts are a way to help reduce loose skin around your neck and as far as cosmetic procedures go, we have found our thread lift patients to be more than happy with the results they get from their thread lift. Thread lift before and after UK results.
Thread lifts are particularly successful when used to redefine areas where the skin has become lax, for example, the jawline. It can also be used to lift the lower face if you start to notice it becoming heavy or jowls starting to form. It is our go-to treatment for instant lifting to help with the loss of facial volume and sharpen the jawline.
The Thermage and thread lift treatment pages on our website have full details and information on what you can expect during and after both treatments and we will of course discuss this fully with you during your consultation. Get in touch to book your appointment with us.
The thread lift treatment is a non-surgical cosmetic option for those who do not want or need surgical skin tightening, such as a facelift. It is often an ideal treatment choice for those who wish to lift and/or rejuvenate the tissue on the body, neck or face. No local anaesthetic is needed, and the treatment almost instantly removes fine lines. A thread face-lift activates your body’s healing response. This cosmetic procedure works with anti-wrinkle injections and is one of the better performing beauty treatments on the market today.
Some of the areas most requested to be treated by the thread lift are the jawline; neck and chin area; nasolabial lines; marionettes; thigh and knee area; inner arms; and stomach. Our thread face-lift experts are more than happy to help you during a personal consultation if you require advice on which areas to work on.
Not all PDO thread treatments offer an immediate result as some are not designed to lift the skin (see more about this in our ultimate guide to the threads). However, if you are having the ‘thread lift’ where the PDO threads used are for lifting the skin then you will see an immediate result. In fact, your practitioner may even treat one side of your face and show you the result on that first side before going on the treat the other side.
Although there is usually an immediate result from this treatment, your final result is expected a few months down the line after the threads have triggered your skin to produce beautiful new collagen and hyaluronic acid which further firms and smooths the treated area.
Yes. In the UK, the tread lift treatment is only permitted to be performed in CQC registered practices. This means that the practitioners that treat you have the right competence, skills, experience and qualifications to keep you safe and the premise you have your treatment in and any equipment used during your treatment is clean and maintained properly. If you’re unsure that your chosen practice is CQC registered, it is public information that you’ll be able to research on the CQC site or ask just the clinic if you can see their certificate whilst you’re there.
The PDO threads that are used during the Thread Lift treatment are very safe. So safe in fact, they are made of the same complex carbohydrates that are used routinely in heart surgery. They are safely reabsorbed by the body over time.
A non-surgical treatment that is designed to lift and regenerate the treated tissue in both men and women. A medical practitioner will place multiple PDO threads strategically into your area of concern and then gently tighten them to enable the lifting of your skin. A skin condition requiring thread lift work would be excess skin. Thread lifts are a great way to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
This should not be an uncomfortable treatment. At our St Albans skin clinic, the treated area is numbed so that you can relax throughout the treatment. Of course, I had this treatment about three years ago now at our Clinic and my experience was comfortable. All I could feel was some pressure and movement in the area that was being treated, at the time that the threads were being placed. I can honestly say that I experienced no pain at all.
This is a little bit of a ‘how long’s a piece of string?’ The question in that is it depends on the metabolism of the individual being treated. This is the same for Botox and dermal filler treatment results also; there is a general guide, but it will vary slightly from person to person.
In the main, our thread lift clients start to consider having the treatment again around 18 months later. Unlike surgical alternatives, however, you can walk away from this non-surgical facelift should you wish; you do not need to keep having it done. The results of your thread lifts become less obvious extremely gradually, over time. If you do thread lifts you will not wake up one day to find that your skin has dropped. You will still have the benefit of the new collagen and hyaluronic acid that your skin produced from the thread lift, however, which is a nice legacy.
Yes, they do. That’s why practitioners often show the first side of your face when they’ve finished creating it so that you can see the difference.
It’s also common practice for practitioners to take ‘before’ photos of you so that when they review you, you can remember what you looked like prior; we’ve had some clients who had gotten so used to the new look that they were shocked when we compared their thread lifts ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos with them at their review appointment.
If someone is expecting the same results as a surgical facelift, they will not get this kind of result. The thread lift treatment is not a surgical procedure where the skin is cut away.
Post thread lifts or treatment you may experience some mild swelling in the treated tissue and some tenderness, which usually resolves itself within a few days and is very manageable with over-the-counter pain relief.
With the above in mind, you can resume gentle exercise, such as walking, immediately if you so choose. Whilst the threads are settling, we usually ask clients to wait around ten days to do any core work or weightlifting so that they do not strain the area-you’d be surprised how much we can accidentally strain even our necks when doing some exercises!
Your practitioner should give you full aftercare instructions so that you are clear about what to expect.
Yes, this treatment can smooth and soften the appearance of those lines. You can see this in the thread lift for jowls before and after photos above.
Yes, the thread lift can be used to lift skin in the double chin area that has become slack; tightening it can make this look smaller and can help to redefine and sharpen your jawline.
If the double chin appearance is just because of pockets of fat rather than loose skin, it may beneficial to consider an alternative treatment such as Desoface to help improve this area.
As with all skin concerns and treatment options, these should always be discussed during a consultation prior to any treatment so that you can fully consider your choices.
As with most services, this will depend on where you go for your treatment and how many individual threads you require.
At the Skin to Love skin-clinic Hertfordshire, the average client’s treatment will cost £800 to £1,800; the price varies according to the number of threads required to help improve your concern. This will be discussed upon assessment.
Naturally, this is a very personal choice. If you are looking for the very dramatic results that surgery can often achieve then this may not be right for you. Equally, if your skin laxity is particularly advanced that you may be a better candidate for surgical intervention. This would be determined during your assessment.
However, some people do not want surgery and the risks that general anaesthetic run so may prefer to go down the non-surgical route; if you have advanced skin laxity then your practitioner should be able to give you an idea of what can be achieved with this treatment and how many threads they would recommend having.
This skin treatment is absolutely worth exploring if you want a more natural-looking result than surgery that makes people say ‘you’re looking well’ and makes you feel refreshed and less tired looking. And who wouldn’t love a sharper, redefined jawline whilst we’re at it? Again, have a look at our thread lift before and after photos above to see what I mean about looking refreshed- they say a picture paints a thousand words don’t they!
If you’ve any further questions specifically about your skin concerns and if the thread lift may help you, please do contact our friendly team, we’d love to tell you more.
