If you’re someone who frequently removes the hair from your underarms by waxing, shaving, or epilating, or if you experience issues from removing your underarm hair, such as uncomfortable shaving rashes and in-growing hair, then laser hair removal may certainly be worth considering.
Here’s why.
Quick Treatments
At our laser hair removal clinic in St. Albans Hertfordshire our Soprano Ice laser can treat you all year around (even if you get a tan throughout the year) and treat all skin tones quickly and effectively. Each session takes around 15 minutes. We generally recommend a course of 8 sessions.
Minimal hassle; laser hair removal for your underarms can easily fit into your day.
Hair-Free Between Sessions
Unlike other methods of hair removal, such as underarm waxing, you do not need to grow your hair in between laser sessions. We simply ask you to not pull the hair out between your laser treatment sessions, so this means no plucking, waxing, or epilating, but you can manage any hair growth by shaving or trimming. We will ask you to shave or trim the hair in the treatment areas the evening before your treatment, ideally.
Improve In-Grown Hairs
Quite simply, the less hair you have and the less you have to remove it with waxing or shaving, the less chance you’ll have of getting in-growing hair. In-growing hairs can be painful, and some people are prone to them; many clients seek out underarm laser hair removal (and in other places on their body too) mainly to relieve them of in- growing hair issues.
Stop Shaving Rashes
Not only do many hair removal methods offer just short-term removal of unwanted hair, they also can come with some uncomfortable side effects such as sore skin and rashes. Laser hair removal reduces the need to remove your hair in these other ways therefore you tend to experience unwanted effects, such as shaving rashes, far less... if at all.
Save Money
There’s no two ways about it, laser hair removal can be more expensive than a waxing session or indeed the price of a razor in the short term. HOWEVER (yes, it’s a big however), laser hair removal has been shown to save money in the long term. Plus, you haven’t had to spend time going for your wax or time shaving - not to mention the rashes, cuts, and in-growing hairs that can come with these types of hair removal.
Understandably, paying for a course of laser hair removal upfront may not be doable for everyone but there are places that will offer you a ‘pay as you go’ option whereby you pay for your laser session on the day of each treatment. This is an option that we offer our clients here at our Hertfordshire laser hair removal clinic to make treatment more accessible.
Freedom
At the risk of sounding like I’m trying to rip off a George Michael song, laser hair removal results give you FREEDOM.
Not having to factor in time to shave? Freedom. Wearing what you like, when you like, without having to consider if your underarms are hairy? Freedom. Not having to strategically book in your waxing sessions? Freedom. Not having to grow your underarm hair between waxing sessions? Freedom. Not having sore and sometimes unsightly razor rashes? Freedom. Not having to even think about your underarm hair? Freeeeedom.
Laser Hair Removal Underarm Before and After
To help you better understand what can be achieved with laser hair removal, here are some laser hair removal underarm before and after photos from a female client at our Hertfordshire laser clinic. What do you think; would this type of result be worth it for you?
Laser hair removal for underarms is a very popular area to have treated at our laser hair removal clinic so it stands to reason that we get asked all sorts of questions about the treatment. Here are a few laser hair removal FAQs that you might find helpful if you're looking for underarm laser hair removal treatment.
Does Laser Remove Unwanted Hair Permanently?
Laser hair removal is not classed as a permanent method of hair removal. It is used as a long-term hair removal method, for example, I had my underarms treated over 10 years ago and I’ve only had a couple of maintenance sessions in the time following my full course of treatment. No matter what laser treats you, nor what hair removal clinic you choose, no one can guarantee that treatment will permanently remove your hair; in fact, it could possibly be a red flag if they do suggest that you’ll achieve a permanent result.
Laser hair removal offers a long-term reduction in hair. How long you maintain those results will depend on many factors including your hormones, changes in your hormones, and how many treatment sessions you had.
What Happens if I Stop Laser Hair Removal Early?
It’s unlikely that you’ll achieve your best results if you stop laser hair removal early.
Laser hair removal is not just about a reduction in your hair. We expect to see changes in your hair throughout the course; the hair may become less coarse, it may become lighter in colour, the growth may become patchy, any regrowth may become slower. These are all positive changes for your practitioner to observe and we’ll be asking you to give feedback to us on any changes you note between your treatment sessions.
Each laser hair removal session offers an approximate reduction in 10-15% of the treated hair. Please note that this is not an exact science as each body is different, however, if we do the math based on this approximation then should you stop laser hair removal after 4 sessions then you may only achieve a 40% reduction in the hair. This is why we recommend that everyone has a course of 8 treatment sessions; you may be happy with your reduction in the hair at this point, however you can have additional sessions if you still notice some regrowth and you wish to try for further improvements.
Does Underarm Laser Hair Removal Help With B.O?
Laser hair removal under your arms isn’t going to stop you sweating nor stop bacteria being on the skin but, seeing as underarm hairs can contribute to B.O. by trapping the odors, by having less, or no hair growth, then there’s less opportunity for those smells to be retained under your arms.
Is Underarm Laser Worth It?
We believe that for most people underarm laser hair is worth it... not only for the fact that it can reduce the hair but for the other benefits that come along with it such as a reduction in in-growing hairs and uncomfortable side effects associated with short-term hair removal efforts.
Nurse Jane Lewis from our Hertfordshire laser hair clinic comments: “Laser hair removal is a treatment that can be life changing. It can be easy to underestimate how much having unwanted hair can impact our lives, from our confidence down to our daily routines. I absolutely believe that underarm laser is worth it for many, many people and I’ve seen thousands of examples of this over the years. Underarm laser hair removal can leave many people with one problem however... the regret that they didn’t treat other areas whilst they were having their underarms treated!”
