These treatments have been the secret weapon of beauty insiders and beauty editors for a little while now; promoting radiance and hydration as well as correcting crepey, wrinkled skin that’s becoming saggy and lax, it’s easy to see why beauty journalists are raving about it. Even American beauty editors are hopping on planes to make Profhilo pilgrimages to the UK whilst they wait (not-so-patiently) for its imminent U.S launch.
At The Skin to Love Clinic, we too have been eagerly awaiting this treatment hitting the clinic. It’s not like any treatment we currently offer (and we offer a lot of treatments) and we’re not disappointed. It is a treatment that helps increase collagen and elastin production in your skin using injectable hyaluronic acid.
This treatment is made of injectable hyaluronic acid (much like a dermal filler) which improves skin quality and treat skin laxity. It is produced in a special way which means not only does it hydrate and act like scaffolding within the skin, it also triggers a response in the tissue known as ‘bio-remodelling’ which smooths, tightens and gives your skin an inner glow. Literally.
In short, the treatment remodels skin laxity and battles crepiness. It is not a replacement for fillers and Botox and can be used in combination with these other treatments or as a stand-alone treatment. It works on the skin quality rather than the muscle movement which cause wrinkles (Botox treats this) or for the loss of volume in the fat pads and filling specific lines (fillers treat these concerns).
Wondering what are the benefits of this treatment, well we can start with breaking down bio-remodelling…
This is a process that is triggered in the skin to create lots of new, bouncy collagen and elastin which helps to combat the signs of skin ageing such as lines and wrinkles, crepiness, and dull, thinning skin and improves skin laxity and encourages skin rejuvenation.
This non-surgical procedure uses an incredibly pure form of synthetic hyaluronic acid which is injected strategically into the upper layers of the skin with a very small needle. Unlike HA used in filler treatments, this hyaluronic acid is very runny (think honey-like) which effortlessly disperses into the skin where it has a ‘scaffolding’ action on the tissues, hydrates and begins its bio-remodelling process to improve skin laxity.
The results aren’t immediate as profhilo is a 2-part treatment; these two treatments are 30 days, (or four weeks) apart from one another. In the 30 days prior to your two treatments, your skin works hard, to produce new, bouncy collagen and elastin to give your skin a firmer, smoother and plumper complexion. Full results are seen only after the second session as your skin produces more and more collagen and elastin, however, changes are often noticed after the first session.
The only similarity between dermal fillers and Profhilo is that they’re both made from hyaluronic acid which is injected into your tissues.
Most dermal fillers are made of a substance called hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is found within our skin but depletes as we age and helps to maintain the moisture in our skin and aids regeneration. Additionally, hyaluronic acid behaves like a sponge, drawing and retaining up to 1,000 times its own weight in water; this means that the skin is plump, smooth, and hydrated.
However, hydration is not usually the main reason we treat the skin with hyaluronic dermal fillers. For filler treatments, the hyaluronic acid your practitioner uses comes in the form of a soft gel that is strategically placed with a fine needle.
Dermal fillers are quite thick hyaluronic acid gels, which are used to help with treating skin laxity and restore volume and definition to areas experiencing signs of ageing, such as cheeks and lips. These forms of stabilised injectable HA help plump ageing and sagging tissue as well as smooth out specific wrinkles such as nose-to-mouth lines.
Whereas, Profhilo has a runnier consistency than dermal fillers and is injected only into the upper layers of skin to hydrate and have a ‘scaffolding’ anti-ageing effect within the skin, as well as improve the quality of your skin thanks to its ability to trigger bio remodelling.
The Times beauty journalist, Olivia Falcon, describes it brilliantly: “Imagine your skin is a bed: rather than plumping up the pillows (the effect fillers have on the skin), Profhilo increases the thread count of the sheets (your skin).” Which in effect, ultimately reduces signs of ageing in your skin but also remodels the natural lift throughout your face.
There is no downtime; immediately after the procedure, you can see small bumps, much like an insect bite or bee sting, at the site of the injection. These are very easy to cover usually and can take up to 24 hours to settle.
The innovative injection technique used during treatment means that only 5 small injections are needed on each side of the face meaning that the treatment is quick and comfortable.
The treatment is biocompatible due to its pure grade hyaluronic acid which is free of additives, therefore reducing side effects and offering greater safety. To date, over a million Profhilo treatments have been administered all over the world and nobody has had a serious reaction to the treatment.
Despite the incredibly high hyaluronic acid content, this slow-release treatment has a low inflammatory profile, pro-healing properties and is backed by clinical studies.
If you would like to learn more about the treatment, its anti-ageing properties and if it would be suitable for your skin concerns, please don’t hesitate to book a consultation with one of our medical practitioners. Or alternatively, see more of our aesthetic treatments.
These treatments improve your skin tone, texture, hydration and overall radiance. It helps to increase skin firmness and elasticity and promote healthier and youthful-looking skin. It also increases the amount of collagen, a naturally occurring substance, in your skin. These anti-wrinkle injections can produce results that can last for up to six months due to the stabilised injectable hyaluronic acid.
Yes, there are no real restrictions as these non-surgical injectable treatments can be used to prevent signs of crepey or ageing skin and to intensely hydrate the skin. Some ask does profhilo work, or is it worth it? And to this, we say, yes.
The injection sites produce a slow release of Hyaluronic Acid, whilst dermal fillers are more intense on your skin, profhilo injections will give you youthful skin over the next few weeks after your treatment session.
How long do results last? The improvements to the firmness, elasticity and overall quality of your skin should last up to 6 months.
A dermal filler also contains HA, the key difference between these two treatments is that it doesn’t add volume or change the structure of the face. Whereas, Dermal fillers are used as lifting and volume adding beauty treatments.
It is one of the more popular non-surgical aesthetic treatments available in the beauty market today. It differs from dermal fillers and other filler treatments in that it reduces fine lines by helping to increase your collagen and elastin levels, both of which are naturally occurring substances.
Profhilo gives you a skin glow or luminous skin by injecting stabilised injectable Hyaluronic Acid into the upper layers of your skin. Reviews as well as before and after photos are a great way to see how the treatment works.
Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally, and as a substance that is naturally present in the human body. It is well known for its skin benefits, especially alleviating dry skin, reducing sagging skin and an uneven skin tone, the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and crepeyness.
This acid is used in both treatments and dermal filler treatment options to smooth your skin’s surface, give you tighter skin and a youthful appearance. It also has intense hydration properties and when used in procedures, reduces the appearance of ageing and sagging tissue.
This anti wrinkle injection treatment, like traditional dermal fillers, is one of the best treatment options available in the market today. It is considered to be one of the beauty industries secret weapons and is incredible when it comes to giving you a youthful and natural glow.
Post your first treatment you will experience increased firmness in your skin, improved quality of your skins hydration levels and you will feel confident and empowered. It is the next step in a skin treatments evolution to a traditional dermal filler.
It is a 2-part treatment; these two procedures are 30 days, (or four weeks) apart from one another. You will also notice smoother skin texture and can expect increased skin firmness after your treatment sessions.
