Profhilo Treatments have been the secret weapon of beauty insiders and beauty editors for a little while now; promoting radiance and hydration as well as correcting crepey, wrinkled skin that’s becoming saggy and lax, it’s easy to see why beauty journalists are raving about it. Even American beauty editors are hopping on planes to make Profhilo pilgrimages to the UK whilst they wait (not-so-patiently) for its imminent U.S launch.
At The Skin to Love Clinic, we too have been eagerly awaiting this treatment hitting the clinic. It’s not like any treatment we currently offer (and we offer a lot of treatments) and we’re not disappointed.
This treatment is made of injectable hyaluronic acid (much like a dermal filler) which improves skin quality and treat skin laxity. Profhilo is produced in a special way which means not only does it hydrate and act like scaffolding within the skin, it also triggers a response in the tissue known as ‘bioremodeling’ which smooths, tightens and gives your skin an inner glow. Literally.
In short, the treatment remodels skin laxity and battles crepiness. It is not a replacement for fillers and Botox and can be used in combination with these other treatments or as a stand-alone treatment. It works on the skin quality rather than the muscle movement which cause wrinkles (Botox treats this) or for the loss of volume in the fat pads and filling specific lines (fillers treat these concerns). What are the benefits of profhilo?
This is a process that is triggered in the skin to create lots of new, bouncy collagen and elastin which helps to combat the signs of skin ageing such as lines and wrinkles, crepiness, and dull, thinning skin and improves skin laxity and encourages skin rejuvenation.
This non-surgical procedure uses an incredibly pure form of synthetic hyaluronic acid which is injected strategically into the upper layers of the skin with a very small needle. Unlike hyaluronic acid used in filler treatments, this hyaluronic acid is very runny (think honey-like) which effortlessly disperses into the skin where it has a ‘scaffolding’ action on the tissues, hydrates and begins its bio-remodelling process to improve skin laxity.
The results aren’t immediate as profhilo is a 2-part treatment; these two treatments are 30 days, (or four weeks) apart from one another. In the 30 days prior to your two treatments, your skin works hard, to produce new, bouncy collagen and elastin to give your skin a firmer, smoother and plumper complexion. Full results are seen only after the second session as your skin produces more and more collagen and elastin, however, changes are often noticed after the first session.
The only similarity between dermal fillers and Profhilo is that they’re both made from hyaluronic acid which is injected into your tissues.
Most dermal fillers are made of a substance called hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is found within our skin but depletes as we age and helps to maintain the moisture in our skin and aids regeneration. Additionally, hyaluronic acid behaves like a sponge, drawing and retaining up to 1,000 times its own weight in water; this means that the skin is plump, smooth, and hydrated.
However, hydration is not usually the main reason we treat the skin with hyaluronic dermal fillers. For filler treatments, the hyaluronic acid your practitioner uses comes in the form of a soft gel which is strategically placed with a fine needle.
Dermal fillers are quite thick hyaluronic acid gels, which are used to restore volume and definition to areas experiencing signs of ageing, such as cheeks and lips. These forms of stabilised injectable hyaluronic acid help plump ageing and sagging tissue as well as smooth out specific wrinkles such as nose-to-mouth lines.
Whereas, Profhilo has a runnier hyaluronic acid consistency than dermal fillers and is injected only into the upper layers of skin to hydrate and have a ‘scaffolding’ anti ageing effect within the skin, as well as improve the quality of your skin thanks to its ability to trigger bioremodelling.
The Times beauty journalist, Olivia Falcon, describes it brilliantly: “Imagine your skin is a bed: rather than plumping up the pillows (the effect fillers have on the skin), Profhilo increases the thread count of the sheets (your skin).” Which in effect, ultimately reduces signs of ageing in your skin but also remodels the natural lift throughout your face.
There is no downtime; immediately after the procedure, you can see small bumps, much like an insect bite or bee sting, at the site of the injection. These are very easy to cover usually and can take up to 24 hours to settle.
The innovative injection technique used during a treatment means that only 5 small injections are needed each side of the face meaning that the treatment is quick and comfortable.
The treatment is biocompatible due to its pure grade hyaluronic acid which is free of additives, therefore reducing side effects and offering greater safety. To date, over a million Profhilo treatments have been administered all over the world and nobody has had a serious reaction to the treatment.
Despite the incredibly high hyaluronic acid content, this slow release treatment has a low inflammatory profile, pro-healing properties and is backed by clinical studies.

Profhilo is one of the more popular non surgical aesthetic treatments available in the beauty market today. It differs to dermal fillers and other filler treatments in that it reduces fine lines by helping to increase your collagen and elastin levels, both of which are a naturally occurring substance. The Profhilo treatment gives you a skin glow or luminous skin by injecting Hyaluronic Acid into the upper layers of your skin. Profhilo reviews as well as profhilo before and after photos are a great way to see how the treatment works.
