If you’ve ever found yourself looking at a treatment menu feeling a little overwhelmed, frankly, I’m not surprised. And you’re certainly not the only one. The world of medical-aesthetics has move far beyond the traditional ‘tweakment’. We’re now in the era of skin regeneration.
With so much in the media and high-end beauty-spheres talking about Profhilo, dermal fillers and, more recently, polynucleotides, the big question remains: which treatment is actually for me?
Our Aesthetic Nurse, Joanne, recently took to the clinic floor to strip away the buzz words and discuss how we use them for patients at our St. Albans clinic. As she carefully explains, “Not all injectables are the same, and they certainly aren’t all ‘fillers’.”
Profhilo Treatments: The Internal Moisturiser
Think of Profhilo not as a way of changing the shape of your face, but as the ultimate internal moisturiser for your skin.
The Science: It consists of a high-concentration of ultra-pure Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic acid is the main ingredient in dermal fillers, but unlike fillers Profhilo isn’t designed to stay in one place; it has a honey-like consistency and as it gently spreads through the skin it stimulates collagen and elastin whilst giving a deeply plumping wash of hydration.
The Result: That ‘just-got-back-from-the-Amalfi-Coast' glow. Skin is deeply hydrated and texture and overall skin quality are improved without changing the shape of your face.
Dermal Fillers: The Architect
Dermal fillers, quite simply, provide structural support. They’re not primarily used to improve the skin but rather how the skin sits. At our St. Albans clinic, we offer natural looking results with dermal filler rather than a more ‘enhanced’ outcome.
The Science: Traditional dermal fillers consist of hyaluronic acid in a gel-based from. They’re placed precisely to restore lost volume or rebuild lost definition, replicating what the natural fat pads and bone structure once did.
The Result: This is all about support and shape. Think sharpening a jawline that has lost its definition or gently redefining lips, helping you to look like a more rested version of yourself.
